AGO 16 | Glocal
The regional narrative and the richness of its peculiarities, even if genuinely assimilated to the essence of their places of origin, clearly shows the formation of the so-called global culture, in which the barriers of distance are dissolved and nothing else seems immune to the appropriation of the current model - from the chant to the tale. In this case, designed at a global level as a kind of representation of "us " , the site not only integrates the strengths but also contributes to the formation of identity in this new globalized context, homogeneous and, sometimes, artificial. Thus, in order to extol the ethnic roots and diversity of 'ghettos' - a regional site without borders - Wozen legitimizes its new exhibition: the collective " Glocal". Say yes to multiculturalism and the charms of all tropics.

Born and raised in the village of Mualela in Cabo Delgado - in the heart of the Makonde region, an ethnic Bantu located between northeastern Mozambique and southeastern Tanzania - the Mozambican artist Malenga brings ancestral depth and the roots of their ancestors as main references for his artwork, whether in music, sculpture or painting. The corner absorbed in the choir of the "initiation rite", the sculpture of family tradition, vivid color canvas and memories make Malenga a true exponent of Makonde art.
Burry Buermans is a belgium collage artist that is currently living in Portugal.

Tulpomania, 2016 | Digital print over glass - 110 cm x 120 cm
Tulpomania tells the story of the period between 1634 and 1637 where in Holland people went mad about Tulips. For example, one flowerbulb of the "Sempre Augustus" was more expensive then 7 year salaries of a mason.
The diamond represents the incredible riches that where involved with the tulip business and the skull reflects the misery that came after 1637 when the tulip business went bankrupt.
In stead of seeing dollar sings, the right eye of the skull is replaced with a flowerbulp of the tulip and the nose is replaced with a tulip in bloom. (Ironically the tulip does not smell)
