A ideia de produzir este livro de serigrafias surgiu a partir da vontade de homenagear o poeta, ilustrador, impressor e pintor inglês William Blake (Londres, 28 de novembro de 1757 - Londres, 12 de agosto de 1827), que, entre o iluminismo, a Revolução Industrial e o auge do clássico “augustano”, conseguia “enxergar o que muitos se negavam a ver na época: a pobreza, a injustiça social, a negatividade do poder da Igreja e do Estado.
Segundo o autor Lucas Almeida, o livro - “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell”, escrito entre 1790 e 1793 - o ajudou imenso quando o conheceu, quando leu os provérbios do inferno pela primeira vez. “Atingiu-lhe como ainda hoje podem ser atuais e, daí, surgiu a vontade de fazer um tributo e convidar vários amigos e artistas para ilustrar um de seus provérbios”, conta Lucas. Desta forma, com a ajuda de David Leitão, foram selecionados 30 dos provérbios do Inferno que constam no livro original.
O livro “Proverbs from Hell” conta com a participação de: Ana Trincão, Ana Menezes, Atari Watson, Bernardo Carvalho, Bidó, Bruno Borges, Catarina Santos, Catarina Viana, Dalila Vaz, Daniel Freymuller, David Leitão, Filipa Pinho, João Chambel, João Bento, José Feitor, José Smith, Justin Sanz, João Lourenço, Lucas Almeida, Leonor Morais, Madalena Matoso, Nuno Monteiro, Paulo Arraiano, Phil Sanders, Rita Roquete, Rie Hasegawa, Roque, Sofia Palma, Tiago Maduro e Xico Pirata.
Biografia - Lucas Almeida nasceu em 1981 e, desde cedo, adquiriu o gosto de desenhar, com influências desde a banda desenhada à pintura e cinema de animação. Tirou licenciatura em artes plásticas nas Caldas da Rainha, onde explorou várias áreas de expressão. Em 2006, ganhou o prémio do concurso jovens criadores na categoria de Bd e, tres anos depois, realizou um estágio Inov-art em Nova Iorque, na RobertBlackburn Printmaking Workshop, a percorrer vários caminhos desde exposições colectivas, projecções de cinema experimental em pelicula de 16mm, desenho ao vivo durante concertos, pintura mural e em tela. Editou um livro de Bd intitulado “O Hábito faz o monstro” em 2012 e, actualmente, trabalha no seu atelier de serigrafia, fazendo projectos pessoais, edições de livros e trabalhos sob encomendas. Desenvolve também um projecto na Quinta do Boição do meio, em Bucelas, de recuperação de edificios e construção de oficinas de várias técnicas para residências artísticas.

The idea of roducing this serigraphy book came from the desire to honor the English poet, illustrator, printer and painter William Blake (London, November 28, 1757 - London, August 12, 1827) who, among the Enlightenment, The Industrial Revolution and the pinnacle of the "Augustan" classic, could "see what many refused to see at the time: poverty, social injustice, and the negativity of the power of the Church and the State.
According to author Lucas Almeida, the book "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell", written between 1790 and 1793 - helped him immensely when he met him when he read the proverbs of hell for the first time. "It hit him how they still can be applied today, and from that came the desire to pay tribute and invite friends and artists to illustrate one of his proverbs," says Lucas. In this way, with the help of David Leitão, 30 of the Proverbs of Hell that were in the original book were selected.

Biography - Lucas Almeida was born in 1981 and, from an early age, acquired the taste of drawing, with influences from comics to painting and animation cinema. He took a degree in plastic arts in Caldas da Rainha, where he explored several areas of expression. In 2006, he won the Young Producers Award in the BD category and three years later he held an Inov-art internship in New York, at the RobertBlackburn Printmaking Workshop, going through various avenues from collective exhibitions, experimental movie screenings in 16mm, live drawing during concerts, mural painting and canvas. He edited a Bd book entitled "The Habit Makes the Monster" in 2012 and currently works in his screen printing studio, doing personal projects, book editions and commissioned work. It also develops a project in Quinta do Boição do Meio, in Bucelas, to recover buildings and build workshops of various techniques for artistic residences.
