Abel Burger is an interdisciplinary French artist whose practice unfolds between drawing, oil pastel, video, and writing. Living in the Mediterranean fishing town of Port-Vendres, her work resonates with the rhythm of the sea, ancient memories, and the quiet mystery of time.
Self-taught and shaped by the Parisian underground of the 1990s, Burger’s path has long intertwined art and writing as means to explore identity, mythology, and transformation. Her recent works — dense layers of oil pastel pressed into paper and balsa wood — reveal intricate, almost architectural forms. These are not mere structures, but vessels of memory: “archaeologies of the future,” where fragments of ancient beliefs, symbols, and dreams converge into new mythologies.
Guided by intuition and play, Burger moves fluidly between the personal and the collective, blurring the lines between what is remembered and what is imagined. Her art invites viewers into dreamlike spaces — intimate yet universal — where hidden narratives unfold and the boundaries between reality and reverie dissolve.
Burger’s work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows across Europe and the US, including Musée d’Art Moderne, Collioure (2021); Baull Gallery, Berlin (2020); Wondering People, London (2022); and Mason Fine Arts, Atlanta (2021).
