The Zone d’Utopie Temporaire (Z.U.T.) residency programme is a nomadic annual residency which addresses the notion of Utopia as a vehicle for artistic and critical comment. Initiated by curator Alice Bonnot, the residency stands as a social and creative experiment whereby a group of artists work together during four weeks to create a Temporary Utopian Zone. Accompanied by theorists and guest speakers through
both structured conferences and more informal discussions, artists reflect upon central Utopian themes and create sitespecific works inspired by this cultural exchange. The residency results in an exhibition presenting the outcome of this artistic collaboration and participants organise many public events.

Artists:

Pedro Moreira (b. 1989, Lisbon) is an online entity and Internet based artist with a practice centered on questions of the meaning of the world "reality", and how the ways in which it is consumed blurs the lines between virtual and "real" space and identity.

Through installations, performances and digital pictures, the Parisians artists Galdric Fleury and Antoine Fontaine, known as fleuryfontaine, questions the interactions between man and its close environment, using information technologies as their field of investigation.

Inês Neto dos Santos is a multi-disciplinary artist, born in Lisbon (1992) and based in London. Her work moves between performance and installation, and stands upon collaboration and conversation. Her practice uses food, people and spaces to question our surroundings, propose new exchanges and discussions and investigates food’s endless potential for togetherness.

Panos Papadopoulos (b. 1975 Athens) lives and works in Athens and Vienna. Its aim is the understanding, experimentation and analysis of space and human relationships through painting simulation mechanisms. 

Thomas Langley (b.1986 London) is a fine artist working with an interdisciplinary practice that includes painting, sculpture, performance, drawing and installation. His work is often self-referential although approaching certain universal truths through through that; the human condition, or more specifically the artistic condition, are what he strives to make contact with. 

Louise Ashcroft (b. England) creates speculative situations by interfering with public and private spaces in order to make alternative realities imaginable as a challenge to social norms and power systems. Ashcroft uses humour to antagonize power structures and resist passive acceptance of social norms by shifting and repurposing the materials and systems she encounters in ordinary spaces. Whether experienced live or through her retellings in many forms (sculpture, video, comedy, sign-painting, rap, PowerPoint), Ashcroft’s trickster antics bring out the surrealism that’s already inherent in our status quo in order to question hegemony and authority. Louise Ashcroft graduated in 2013 with an MA in Sculpture from The Royal College of Art. She is co-founder of peer-led alternative art school AltMFA.
