In a world suspended between fracture and becoming, five artists from Brazil, Chile, São Tomé and Príncipe, the Caribbean diaspora, and Ukraine, ask a question that is quietly urgent:
Who are we when everything in the world around us is changing?
We live in a time of war, technological disruption, and deep internal crisis where the notion of ‘self’ is increasingly detached from its own depth. Minds have learned to live anywhere but here. In a society obsessed with speed and productivity, the simple act of inhabiting the present moment becomes a quiet act of resistance.
What we stop feeling,
we begin to forget.
What we forget,
we can no longer transform.
Confucius reminded us that by working on our inner being, we inevitably reshape the world around us, no matter where we find ourselves. A change of place does not alter our essence, rather it illuminates what was already there. Centuries later, physician and teacher Jon Kabat-Zinn returned to this same truth: full presence — intentional, unguarded attention to the moment we are living — transcends the notion of a spiritual luxury, to an essential way of inhabiting ourselves, our life, and our planet.
Wherever you go, there you are.
This exhibition invites identity to be experienced as a continuous uncovering. It lives in the small things: a remembered corner, the smell of a kitchen, a gaze that recognises us without words. To experience it, something in us must break open. The old ways of seeing must decompose before new ones can grow.
These are territories shaped by colonial encounter, forced displacement, and the permanent struggle for self-definition. At the same time, it is from the fabric of these precise histories that the most powerful narratives of resilience, reinvention, and collective imagination emerge.
This exhibition proposes a quiet but radical act: to pay attention. To our emotions, our surroundings, the small signs offered to us through the present moment. What we transform in ourselves, we transform in the world around us.
The individual and the collective are forces which evolve together. When we cultivate awareness of our own histories and identities, we become capable of contributing more meaningfully to the societies we share.
There is a faith required in the unseen thread that connects us across difference, distance, and time.
Wherever you go, there you are.
Here we are. And in this now, we begin.

ONDE QUER QUE VÁS, LÁ ESTARÁS
Num mundo suspenso entre a fratura e o “vir a ser”, cinco artistas do Brasil, Chile, Príncipe e São Tomé, a diáspora caribenha e a Ucrânia, colocam uma pergunta que é bastante urgente:
Quem somos nós, quando tudo ao nosso redor está a mudar?
Vivemos em tempos de guerra, rutura tecnológica e profundas crises internas, onde o conceito de ‘eu’ está cada vez mais distante da sua própria profundidade. A mente aprendeu a viver em qualquer lugar, menos ‘aqui’.
Numa sociedade obcecada com a rapidez e a produtividade, habitar o presente torna-se um ato silencioso de resistência
O que paramos de sentir,
começamos a esquecer.
O que esquecemos,
já não podemos transformar.
Confúcio relembrou-nos de que ao trabalhar o nosso ser interior, acabamos por dar uma nova forma ao mundo que nos rodeia, independentemente de onde nos encontremos. Uma mudança de lugar não altera a nossa essência, aliás ilumina o que já estava presente. Centenas de anos depois, o biólogo e professor Jon Kabat-Zinn voltou a essa mesma verdade: plena presença — a atenção desarmada e intencional ao momento em que estamos a viver — transcende a noção de luxo espiritual, para uma maneira essencial de nos habitarmos a nós, à nossa vida e ao nosso planeta.
Onde quer que vás, lá estarás.
Esta exposição convida à experiência da identidade como uma descoberta contínua. Reside nas coisas pequenas: uma esquina relembrada, o cheiro duma cozinha, um olhar que nos reconhece sem palavras. Para experienciá-lo, algo em nós tem de ser aberto. As habituais maneiras de ver têm de ser desfeitas, antes que as novas possam nascer.
Falamos de terrenos moldados pelos encontros coloniais, o deslocamento forçado e a luta permanente pela auto definição. Ao mesmo tempo, é do material dessas mesmas histórias que surgem as narrativas mais poderosas de resiliência, reinvenção e imaginação coletiva.
Esta exposição propõe um ato tranquilo e ao mesmo tempo radical: prestar atenção. Atenção às nossas emoções, aos nossos arredores, aos pequenos sinais que o presente nos oferece. O que transformamos em nós, transformamos também no mundo que nos rodeia.
O individual e o coletivo são forças que envolvem em conjunto. Quando desenvolvemos a nossa sensibilidade, sobre as nossas histórias e identidades, tornamo-nos capazes de contribuir, de uma forma mais consciente, para com as sociedades que partilhamos.
É preciso ter fé na linha invisível que nos conecta todos, para lá das diferenças, distâncias e tempos.
Onde quer que vás, lá estarás.
Aqui estamos. E é nesse agora que começamos.
