A ERITAGE, em parceria com a galeria de arte contemporânea THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE, tem o prazer de apresentar: “Revivescência: Uma jornada para o presente”, uma exposição individual do artista angolano Osvaldo Ferreira. A mostra realiza-se em Lisboa, a partir de 23 de Maio de 2023, abrindo a semana da arte na capital portuguesa.
Osvaldo Ferreira (n. 1980, Angola), explora temáticas relacionadas com o quotidiano da sociedade angolana, evidenciando uma continuidade / descontinuidade intergeracional no que diz respeito às vivências sociais.
Constituída maioritariamente por pintura, a sua obra integra frequentemente elementos cromáticos e materiais que remetem para a tradição têxtil africana de cores exuberantes. Deste modo, o artista assinala a presença da herança cultural e social do seu continente, África - um continente que, através da colonização e globalização, testemunhou sucessivos processos de apropriação e manipulação cultural, gerando a miscigenação involuntária e a imposição de um sistema que conduziu à degeneração da sua identidade.
Reunindo cerca de 20 obras inéditas produzidas ao longo do último ano, a mostra propõe, através da representação na pintura, a eclosão de um novo estatuto para a imagem da contemporaneidade relacional que se encena no espaço urbano da capital angolana.
Por via de uma construção estética singular, pautada pelo uso exacerbado da cor, pela reinvenção dos padrões dos tecidos tradicionais africanos e pela desconstrução de estereótipos longamente mediatizados no campo da pintura, Osvaldo Ferreira evidencia nesta exposição, os aspectos invisíveis de uma história social que se tece na vida quotidiana da cidade de Luanda.
Através de um continuado exercício de investigação, experimentação e questionamento, o autor vai propondo e re-definindo, localmente, novos caminhos para a arte figurativa, com formas de representação e imagens que nos surpreendem pelas suas contraposições e contrastes e que, por isso mesmo, se integram no espaço de uma modernidade que desde há muito se vem encarregando de desconstruir as categorias estéticas tradicionais.
Osvaldo Ferreira expõe uma obra que - no desenho, na cor, na composição, no modelo heterodoxo de representação do feminino e na contínua reinvenção da construção do espaço cénico da pintura - se afirma pela liberdade de criação, propondo-se alargar os seus limites, contra as convenções estéticas e sociais, contra os academismos na representação do mundo, e em prol da expansão contínua da esfera artística e da construção de uma práxis local.
Juntos, o título "Revivescência: Uma Jornada para o Presente" e os temas explorados pelo artista em sua obra sugerem um processo de redescoberta e reivindicação do patrimônio cultural e social africano, além de um reconhecimento da necessidade de conscientizar e abordar os legados da colonização e da globalização, a fim de construir um futuro mais equitativo e justo.

ERITAGE, in partnership with the contemporary art gallery THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE, is pleased to present: "Revivescence: A Journey to the Present," a solo exhibition by Angolan artist Osvaldo Ferreira. The show will take place in Lisbon starting on May 23rd, 2023, opening the art week in the Portuguese capital.
Osvaldo Ferreira (b. 1980, Angola) explores themes associated with the everyday life of the Angolan society, evidencing an intergenerational continuity / discontinuity with regard to social experiences.
His work, primarily constituted of paintings, often integrates chromatic and material elements that refer to the African textile tradition of exuberant colors. With this, he aims to emphasize the presence of Africa’s cultural and social heritage – a continent that, through colonization and globalization, witnessed successive processes of appropriation and cultural manipulation, triggering involuntary miscegenation and the imposition of a system that degenerates the continent’s identity.
Bringing together 20 new works produced over the past year, the exhibition proposes, through representation in painting, the emergence of a new status for the image of contemporary relational staging in the urban space of the Angolan capital.
Through a unique aesthetic construction, marked by the exacerbated use of color, the reinvention of traditional African fabric patterns, and the deconstruction of stereotypes long mediated in the field of painting, Osvaldo Ferreira shows in this exhibition the invisible aspects of a social history woven into the daily life of the city of Luanda.
Through a continuous exercise of research, experimentation, and questioning, the author is locally proposing and redefining new paths for figurative art, with forms of representation and images that surprise us by their oppositions and contrasts and which, for this very reason, are integrated into the space of a modernity that has long been in charge of deconstructing traditional aesthetic categories.
Osvaldo Ferreira is exhibiting a body of work that - in drawing, color, composition, the heterodox model for representing the feminine, and in the continuous reinvention of the construction of the scenic space of painting - is affirmed by the freedom of creation, proposing to expand its limits, against aesthetic and social conventions, against academism in the representation of the world, and in favor of the continuous expansion of the artistic sphere and the construction of a local praxis.
Taken together, the title "Revivescence: A Journey to the Present" and the themes explored by the artist in his work suggest a process of rediscovery and reclamation of African cultural and social heritage, and a recognition of the need to acknowledge and address the legacies of colonization and globalization in order to build a more equitable and just future.
