Falaremos claramente desde o início. Não há isso. Não há indivíduos, longe disso. Não, Francisco; não, Ricardo. Longe disso, muito longe. Não falaremos de galeria. Menos, dos textos, que tentam sempre dar a si mesmos o poder do sentido. A história do que aqui ocorre é a história das máquinas.

We will speak clearly from the beginning. There is no that. There are no individuals, far from it. No, Francisco; no, Ricardo. Far from it, far from it. We won´t talk about the gallery. Less than texts, which always try to give themselves the power of meaning. The history of what happens here is the history of machines.

Máquinas sociais. Uma máquina que emite sons se acopla a outra que os recebe e decodifica, para que se traduzam em gestos. Máquinas impressoras. Os gestos, traduzidos, impõem pigmentos sobre as superfícies. Das superfícies, máquinas luminosas carregam rastros, que atingem outras máquinas. Estas acumulam funções: elas captam os rastros e os transcriam para que se conectem a uma nova máquina de consciência, que, por sua vez, avalia os sinais recebidos e os transpõe em novos gestos de impressão por meio de mais uma máquina emissora de novos pigmentos sobre novas superfícies - ou sobre a mesma, criando novas texturas em sobreposições.

Social machines. A machine that emits sounds is coupled to another that receives and decodes them, so that they are translated into gestures. Printing machines. Gestures, translated, impose pigments on surfaces. From surfaces, luminous machines carry tracks, which reach other machines. These accumulate functions: they capture the traces and transcribe them so that they connect to a new machine of consciousness, which, in turn, evaluates the received signals and transposes them into new printing gestures by means of yet another machine emitting new pigments over new surfaces - or over it, creating new textures in overlays.

Essas máquinas todas se retroalimentam, encaixam-se por suas engrenagens, criam movimentos umas nas outras, alimentadas por mais tantas máquinas que as investem de mais e mais energia. Entretanto, todas elas estão submetidas a máquina de controlo, que estabelece prazos para que tudo seja produzido até determinado momento. Essa última é que cria a vida, dota as engrenagens da dimensão humana, por conceber, nas maquinações de consciência, a ideia de finitude. Há uma caveira pousada sobre a mesa de trabalho.

These machines all feed back, fit together by their gears, create movements in each other, powered by so many more machines that invest them with more and more energy. However, all of them are subject to a control machine, which sets deadlines for everything to be produced by a certain time. The latter is what creates life, endows the gears with the human dimension, for conceiving, in the machinations of consciousness, the idea of finitude. There is a skull on the worktable.

A estranha consciência de um fim, tanto no tempo quanto no espaço, a consciência do prazo e do inconsciente, logo da morte no Outro, infinito do sem-resposta, lugar da dialética impossível, faz com que as máquinas busquem outros sistemas, movidas pela tentativa de sobreviver à sua finitude por meio de seus efeitos, por meio do afeto além de si. Paradoxalmente, criam a ideia de clausura. Com medo de se apagarem em sua finitude, passam a buscar o Outro, para, nele, afirmarem a si: culminam na criação do indivíduo. Uma engenhosa armadilha que desgasta, resseca os óleos das engrenagens.

The strange awareness of an end, both in time and space, the awareness of deadlines and the unconscious, after death in the Other, infinite of the unanswered, place of impossible dialectics, makes machines look for other systems, driven by attempt to survive its finitude through its effects, through the affect beyond itself. Do rangir criado pelos dentes que antes se encaixavam delicadamente, como se tudo fosse um só, unindo de maneira silente as diversas partes do processo, como num organismo saudável, agora em meio ao barulho ensurdecedor que criam, enquanto a produção agoniza, dessa massa amorfa de sentido são destacados alguns dos ruídos que se repetem em meio à agonia, criando uma máquina de sons, mas dos sons que surgem dos estertores, provocados pela máquina de controlo. Essa nova máquina de sons é conhecida como máquina da língua.

Dentre os ruídos, a máquina da língua tenta selecionar aqueles que atuem para conectar as partes externas ao sistema fechado pela máquina de controlo. Esses sons atuam mecanicamente para selecionar produtos. Estes que definem os limites desta exposição. São dois os que balizam os demais movimentos sonoros: sinestesia e sinergia, os quais se encadeiam numa sin(estesia)ergia.

Among the noises, the language machine tries to select those that act to connect the external parts to the system closed by the control machine. These sounds act mechanically to select products. These that define the limits of this exposure. There are two that guide the other sound movements: synesthesia and synergy, which are linked together in a syn(esthesia)ergy.

Pelo trabalho desses novos elementos linguísticos, novas engrenagens aderem ao sistema, reduzindo as distâncias, as diferenças criadas pelo controlo na máquina de consciência: o individualismo; o corpo-claustro. Mais sons são agregados ao processo, até os menos rígidos, menos diferenciados por procedimentos claros, como são os da língua; são os sons da máquina musical, que multiplicam seus modos, com tons, timbres, frases, melodias, alturas, intensidades, e interferem na produção também poliflúida dos tons visuais das máquinas de impressão.

Through the work of these new linguistic elements, new gears adhere to the system, reducing distances, the differences created by the control in the consciousness machine: individualism; the cloister body. More sounds are added to the process, even the less rigid ones, less differentiated by clear procedures, such as those of language; they are the sounds of the musical machine, which multiply its modes, with tones, timbres, phrases, melodies, pitches, intensities, and interfere in the polyfluid production of the visual tones of the printing machines.

Assim, juntam-se dois artistas das multiplicidades tonais, antes individualizados, num esforço de aproximação, de apagamento das fronteiras engendradas pela agonia da finalidade.

Os sons, os gritos do ranger que, em algumas circunstâncias, repelem, agora criam ligações maquínicas. Aderem, ao sistema, a história, a cultura, a geografia, territórios antes distantes se conectam, Angola, Portugal e outras regiões presas nos passos de máquinas viajantes, conexões antes impossíveis se fazem na sensação do agonizar. Surgem imagens dos pigmentos, em processos sinérgicos, porque ligam o antes individualizado; sinestésicos, pois conectam máquinas que tinham diferentes naturezas, como o som e o pigmento, e passam a refletir ancestralidades. Sobrepõem-se mutuamente traços angolanos e portugueses, criam máquinas de sentido imensas vezes aglomeradas em superfícies, deixando restar apenas indícios do que foram - assim como todo o processo de criação que culmina nesta sala de exposição, refletindo-o.

The sounds, the screams of the ranger that, in some circumstances, repel, now create machinic connections. History, culture, geography adhere to the system, previously distant territories connect, Angola, Portugal and other regions caught in the footsteps of traveling machines, connections that were previously impossible are made in the sensation of dying. Images of pigments appear, in synergistic processes, because they link what was previously individualized, synesthetic, because they connect machines that had different natures, such as sound and pigment, and start to reflect ancestry. Angolan and Portuguese traits overlap each other, creating machines of meaning immensely clustered on surfaces, leaving only traces of what they were - as well as the entire creative process that culminates in this exhibition room, reflecting it.

O nome desta engenhoca que transparece toda a máquina social em tonalidades, sons, traços, timbres, significados históricos, subtrai o pintor e o músico de suas individualidades e resulta em um processo coletivo, valendo-se das mais diversas peripécias, é o que chamamos Utopia Machine.

The name of this contraption that transpires the entire social machine in tones, sounds, traces, timbres, historical meanings, subtracts the painter and musician from their individualities and results in a collective process, making use of the most diverse adventures, is what we call Utopia Machine.
