Flora Castiglia
Buenos Aires, Argentina, b. 1991

Flora Castiglia is an Argentine painter whose work explores the boundaries between interior and exterior worlds, memory, and perception. Introduced to art through her mother, also an artist, she grew up immersed in the rhythms of studio life — an origin that never left her. For Castiglia, being an artist is not a profession separate from life, but an act of alignment: a refusal to divide the personal from the practice.

Music has played a defining role in her visual language. Early in her career she created designs for musicians and album covers, an experience that left a lasting melodic quality in her work, where forms, colours and compositions interact with the rhythm of musical structures.

Working through abstraction and material layering, Castiglia builds surfaces that feel inhabited rather than simply painted — fabrics, textures and collage accumulate like lived experience. Fragments of handwritten text are embedded within the compositions like encrypted messages, and small figurative portraits drawn in fine line emerge like quiet witnesses, presences caught between memory and vision. Meaning, in her work, is never immediate. It asks to be decoded.

Flora's paintings live inside a constant dialogue, between interior and exterior, domestic and wild, geometric and organic. There is a tension of identity still finding its alignment. In this new series, wild botanical forms push through interior spaces with particular force, untamed, almost refusing to be contained. A form of resistance. Something that needed to grow, like our instinct.

Her work is represented by Escat Gallery, Barcelona. BREATH marks her debut in Portugal.
