"Há sempre qualquer coisa que está pra acontecer. Qualquer coisa que eu [nós] devia [víamos]perceber.” AInquietação eternizada por José Mário Branco acende a fagulha para a inquietação compartilhada por Manuela Pimentel e JAS diante da constatação de que “o Mundo é um modo assumido de relação com o outro”.

"There's always something that's about to happen. Anything I [we] should [see] realize." The restlessness perpetuated by José Mário Branco lights the spark for the restlessness shared by Manuela Pimentel and JAS when faced with the realization that “the World is an assumed way of relating to the other”.

“A presente exposição é fruto de uma provocação aceite pelos autores com vista a entrever de que forma as obras de cada um podem (ou não) habitar um mesmo espaço. Sem regras nem conceitos pré- concebidos, Inquietação é, antes de mais, o produto de um exercício curatorial a que os artistas se propõem. Lançar um renovado olhar para diferentes momentos de seus percursos artísticos, de modo a que os seus trabalhos interagissem com a arquitetura do espaço expositivo, constitui-se como um desafio inquietante.

“This exhibition is the result of a provocation accepted by the authors in order to glimpse how the works of each one can (or not) inhabit the same space. With no preconceived rules or concepts, Inquietação is, above all, the product of a curatorial exercise that the artists propose. Launching a renewed look at different moments of their artistic paths, so that their works interact with the architecture of the exhibition space, constitutes an unsettling challenge.

Aproximando-se da inquietação de José Mário Branco, a pintura de Manuela Pimentel e JAS nasce do incómodo, do inconformismo, da contestação, da resistência – ou será da insistência? – em viver de e para a arte. Assim como acordes dissonantes, resulta também do olhar generoso para a beleza que se depreende do mundo e das pequenas alegrias cotidianas. O que transparece emInquietaçãoé justamente a dissonância. Beleza, encanto, deformidade, conforto, desconforto, equilíbrio, afinidade, instabilidade. Um compêndio de oscilações de obras que vibram em diferentes frequências e que, talvez por isso, teimam em intrigar, inquietar, incomodar e arrebatar. Um arquétipo da amálgama de harmonias e desarmonias que cadenciam a nossa existência. A arte de Manuela e JAS cumpre aqui o decisivo papel de nos permitir escapar e transpor a realidade, propõe um habitar poético do mundo.

Approaching José Mário Branco's restlessness, Manuela Pimentel and JAS's paintings are born out of discomfort, non-conformism, contestation, resistance – or is it insistence? – in living from and for art. As well as dissonant chords, it also results from the generous look at the beauty that comes from the world and from the small everyday joys. What transpires in Restlessness is precisely the dissonance. Beauty, charm, deformity, comfort, discomfort, balance, affinity, instability. A compendium of oscillations of works that vibrate at different frequencies and that, perhaps for this reason, insist on intriguing, disturbing, disturbing and enrapturing. An archetype of the amalgamation of harmonies and disharmonies that cadence our existence. The art of Manuela and JAS fulfills here the decisive role of allowing us to escape and transpose reality, proposing a poetic inhabiting of the world.

Nesse cenário imaginado, em que o artista é a origem da obra e a obra é a origem do artista, como atesta Heidegger, o ser revela-se na relação com o outro. Em Inquietação, é justamente pela relação com o outro que a obra de Manuela e JAS adquire novos contornos, deslocando-se do sentido original. Os trabalhos rearranjam-se, entrelaçam-se no espaço da convivência e da admiração mútua.

In this imagined scenario, in which the artist is the origin of the work and the work is the origin of the artist, as Heidegger attests, the being is revealed in the relationship with the other. In Inquietação, it is precisely because of the relationship with the other that Manuela and JAS' work acquires new contours, moving away from its original meaning. The works rearrange themselves, intertwine in the space of coexistence and mutual admiration.

Mais do que um projeto fechado, encerrado, resolvido, Inquietação revela-se um work in progress, um processo dinâmico, uma tese curatorial em evolução. Um exercício de olhar, de afetos, de tentativa e erro. Um jogo de pensar: como a inquietação que impulsiona e incomoda os autores afeta o público, desinquietando o espectador, ora pela beleza, ora pelo contraste. É nessa dualidade que a exposição se insere.”

More than a closed, resolved project, Inquietação reveals itself as a work in progress, a dynamic process, an evolving curatorial thesis. An exercise in looking, affection, trial and error. A game of thinking: how the restlessness that drives and bothers authors affects the audience, making the viewer uneasy, sometimes because of the beauty, sometimes because of the contrast. It is in this duality that the exhibition is inserted.”
